Data Privacy Statement
The Federal Ministry of the Interior attaches great importance to the responsible handling of personal data. We want you to know when we collect which data and how we use it.
We have implemented technical and organisational measures to ensure that data protection regulations are observed both by us and by our external service providers.
As our websites are further developed and new technologies are implemented, changes to this data privacy statement may become necessary. We therefore recommend that you review this privacy policy from time to time.
Legal basis
The websites of the Federal Ministry of the Interior store and process data in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (GDPR), as well as the Austrian Data Protection Act (DSG), Federal Law Gazette I No. 165/1999, as amended.
The Federal Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Austria is the ‘controller’ within the meaning of the DSG 2000 and the ‘data controller’ within the meaning of the GDPR for the data specified.
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, the legal basis for the storage and processing of personal data on the websites of the Federal Ministry of the Interior is Article 6(1)(e) of the GDPR. By using these websites, you consent to the data processing as described in this statement.

Every time you visit the AsyluminAustria.at website, the following data is stored in a log file (server logs) for a limited period:

This data is used exclusively for the purpose of verifying system security. No personal analysis or profiling takes place.
Nevertheless, we reserve the right to analyse your IP address in the event of attacks on the internet infrastructure of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, which also includes the AsyluminAustria.at website.

Matomo analytics tool
This website uses the open-source tool Matomo for web analytics. Matomo normally uses cookies to enable statistical analysis of website usage. To this end, usage information is transmitted, with your IP address being anonymised immediately. Consequently, no personal data is stored for statistical analysis.
The AsyluminAustria.at website does not set any Matomo cookies and no personal data is stored for statistical analysis.

Contact forms, emails, orders and other forms of contact
Any data you provide to us via online forms or by email (such as contact forms, newsletter subscriptions, event registrations or responses to enquiries) will be handled responsibly by our staff and used solely for the intended purpose. It is entirely up to you whether you wish to provide this data. Relevant information regarding data protection is provided directly on the respective website or application.
When ordering information material, brochures or products, you will be asked for your name and other personal details. It is entirely up to you whether you wish to provide this information. When you place an order, the personal data you provide will be used solely for the purpose of processing the order. This includes passing on data to distribution companies commissioned by the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
Your other enquiries to the Federal Ministry of the Interior will be retained in paper or electronic form in accordance with the retention periods applicable to written records. Your data will be used exclusively for direct correspondence with you.
Publication of information containing personal data
Personal data is published on the information pages of the AsyluminAustria.at website for the purpose of providing contact and networking information, based on the express consent of the data subjects.
Personal data is published in press releases in the public interest, based on the legal basis of Article 6(1)(e) of the GDPR.
Disclosure of personal data to third parties
Data logged when accessing the Federal Ministry of the Interior’s website is only disclosed to third parties where we are required to do so by law or by court order, or where this is necessary for legal or criminal proceedings in the event of attacks on the internet infrastructure.
When ordering information material, brochures or products, we use the personal information you provide only within the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the companies commissioned to process the order.
Furthermore, no data will be disclosed to third parties, whether for commercial or non-commercial purposes, without your express consent.
Protection of minors
Persons under the age of 14 should not provide us with any personal data without the consent of their parents or legal guardians. We do not request personal data from children or young people. We do not knowingly collect such data, nor do we pass it on to third parties.
Privacy Policy for Social Media
The Federal Ministry of the Interior takes the current debate on data protection in social networks very seriously. It is not yet legally clear whether and to what extent all networks offer their services in accordance with European data protection regulations.
We therefore expressly draw your attention to the fact that the services used by the Federal Ministry of the Interior – Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube – store their users’ data (e.g. personal information, IP address) in accordance with their data usage policies and use it for commercial purposes.
The Federal Ministry of the Interior has no influence over the collection of data and its further use by social networks. Consequently, there is no information available regarding the extent to which, the location where and the duration for which the data is stored; the extent to which the networks comply with existing obligations to delete data; the analyses and links made with the data; or to whom the data is passed on.

Our website contains links to third-party websites. We have no control over whether these third parties comply with data protection regulations.
Your rights
You are generally entitled to the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, withdrawal and objection. If you believe that the processing of your data infringes data protection law or that your data protection rights have otherwise been infringed, you may lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority. In Austria, this is the Data Protection Authority.
