Your duties during reception in Austria
While you are in reception, you also have important duties. These duties help the authorities organise your stay and examine your asylum application.
It is important that you follow these rules and cooperate with the authorities. If you do not follow your duties, this may have consequences.
On this page, you can learn about the most important duties you must follow during this time.
Overview of your duties
Below you can find the main duties you have while you are in reception. Click on each section to learn more about the rules you must follow and how they apply to you.
Do not attempt to go to another EU+ country. You are only allowed to travel to another EU+ country if you are given permission to do so by the authorities.
Applicants have similar reception rights and obligations in all EU+ countries.
There are rules regarding applying for asylum and travelling to other EU+ countries:
You must apply for asylum and register your application in the EU+ country where you first arrived, unless the authorities informed you otherwise.
Only one EU+ country is responsible for examining your asylum application. The authorities in Austria will follow a procedure to decide which EU+ country is responsible for your asylum application.
You must stay in Austria. You cannot travel to another EU+ country without the permission of the authorities. If you leave, there will be negative consequences. Your asylum procedure in Austria may be stopped. Your freedom of movement in the other country might be restricted and some reception services will be cancelled.
Inform the authorities about your current address and contact information (telephone number, email), and any changes, so they can contact you at all times.
It is very important that you follow the rules of the place where you are staying:
- The possession, consumption and sale of alcohol and addictive substances as well as carrying or possessing objects, which can be used as weapons is forbidden.
- Residents are responsible für cleanliness in their rooms.
- All residents must be present in their accommodation when announced inspections take place.
The staff will explain the rules and the consequences when rules are not followed.
